Q.  How durable is James Hardie siding?

A.  James Hardie fiber-cement siding comes with a 50 year warranty.  It won't rot, swell, buckle, warp, or delaminate, and will withstand wind and hailstorms.

Q.  How long will my paint last on James Hardie siding?

Q.  When it comes time to paint again will I need to scrape?

A.  No scraping is necessary.  All you need to do is wash the house with a pressure washer.

Q.  Does James Hardie siding expand and contract in different weather conditions?

A.  No.  James Hardie siding is dimensionally stable, so it does not expand or contract, which is one of the reasons that it holds paint so well.

Q.  What are the dimensions of James Hardie siding?

A.  James Hardie lap siding is 5/16" thick and comes in a 12 ft long panel.  The widths vary from 4" exposure to 10 3/4" exposure.  James Hardie siding is also available in vertical siding, shakes, Soffit, and fascia products.

Q.  What is done with the seams?

A. Backflashing is installed under all the seams.

Q.  What is James Hardie siding made of?

A.   James Hardie siding is made up of 90% Portland cement and sand, and 10% cellulose (wood fiber).

Q.  I think there might be rot beneath my siding.  How do you go about fixing it?

A.  First thing we will do is to locate what is causing the problem and fix it.  Then we will cut out the rot and replace the sheathing.  Rot is a fungus and will spread if it is not taken care of.

Q.  How is Hardiplank fastened to the wall?

A.  With a pneumatic nail gun that shoots a 2 3/8" galvanized nail.
